Privacy Policy

Ball Boi Tennis ("Ball Boi," "we," "us") makes the Ball Boi app, which helps adults find local tennis players, run leagues, and record matches for shot analysis. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Ball Boi is available in the United States and is for people 18 and older.

What we collect

Information you give us

• Account: your name, email address, and how you sign in (Apple, Google or email code).
• Age check: we confirm you're 18 or older using Apple's age range feature, or a birth date you enter if that's unavailable. We store only whether you passed. We never store your birth date.
• Profile: your photo, Ball Boi Rating, home area (zip code or neighborhood), town, optional home court, and availability.
• Activity: leagues you join or run, match requests, Open Match posts, scores, standings, and court suggestions.
• Messages: direct messages, Message Requests, match threads, and league chat.
• Reports and blocks: reports you make or receive, including a copy of reported messages, and players you block.

Match recordings

• Video: when you record with Ball Boi, the video includes you, your opponent and anyone else on court.
• Audio: if your recording includes audio, it's used only to detect shots by sound. It's never played back and is deleted after processing.
• Shot data: from your recording we generate court position, ball paths, shot types, in or out calls, and match stats. To detect shots we analyze body position and movement. We don't use video to recognize faces or identify who someone is.

Information from your device

• Location: only if you choose "Use my location" or turn on travel mode, and only while you're using the app. Otherwise we use the zip code you enter.
• Notifications: a push notification token so we can send match reminders, messages and alerts you've allowed.
• Camera and microphone: used only while you're recording a match.

Information from others

• UTR: if you link your UTR account, we receive your UTR rating to verify your Ball Boi Rating. You can unlink anytime from your profile.
• Subscriptions: Apple handles payment for Ball Boi Pro. We receive your subscription status, never your payment card.
• Other players: opponents may record matches you play in, and players may report you or send you messages.

How we use it

• To run your account, leagues, pairings, standings and ratings.
• To show you players and Open leagues near your home area.
• To deliver messages and send notifications you've turned on.
• To analyze your match video and create your stats, replay, trends and match recaps.
• To improve our shot tracking, if training is on (see below).
• To keep Ball Boi safe: filtering spam and abuse, reviewing reports, and enforcing our Terms of Use.
• To manage your Ball Boi Pro subscription and free period.
• To provide support and meet legal obligations.

Training our shot tracking

Match video helps us make Ball Boi's shot tracking more accurate. Training is on by default, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings → Privacy. You'll also see this choice before your first recording.

• A match is used for training only if every Ball Boi player in it left training on.
• If you record someone who doesn't have a Ball Boi account, that match isn't used for training unless they join and leave training on.
• Training video stays within Ball Boi's own systems and the service providers who process it for us. We don't sell it or give it to anyone to use for their own purposes.
• If you turn training off or delete your account, your matches won't be used for future training.

Who can see your information

• Everyone on Ball Boi: your player card, which shows your name, photo, Ball Boi Rating, town, win-loss record, reliability, and Ball Boi highlights like aces and winners.
• Nearby players: your approximate distance (for example "~4 mi away"). Never your exact location. You can hide your profile from discovery anytime.
• League members: results, standings and league chat in leagues you join.
• Only you: your error patterns, heatmaps, trends and career stats.
• Opponents: a notification when a league mate or accepted match partner starts recording your match.

Service providers

We use trusted companies to run Ball Boi. They process data only on our behalf and can't use it for their own purposes.

• Clerk: sign-in and account security.
• Cloudflare: video storage and website hosting.
• Stream: messaging and automated spam and abuse detection.
• Anthropic: an AI assistant that helps review reports when our team hasn't responded within a few hours. People confirm its decisions, and only people can suspend or ban accounts.
• RevenueCat and Apple: subscription management and payments.
• Hosting, database and computing providers: to run our servers and analyze video.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, in which case this policy would continue to apply.

Messages and safety

Messages aren't end-to-end encrypted, so we can review reported conversations. Messages are automatically scanned for spam and harassment. When a message is reported, we save a copy for review, even if it's later deleted.

How long we keep it

• Raw match video: deleted after analysis, unless the match is kept for training.
• Audio: deleted after processing.
• Unanalyzed matches: if you don't subscribe after your free period, saved matches waiting for analysis are deleted after 30 days.
• Everything else: kept while your account is open.

Deleting your account

Delete your account anytime from Profile → Delete account. We delete your profile, messages, recordings, ratings and stats, unlink your UTR account, and stop using your matches for future training. Past league results stay in standings as "Deleted player" so other players' records stay accurate. We may keep limited records when the law requires it, or to enforce a ban.

Your choices and rights

• Turn off training, location, notifications and message previews in Settings.
• Hide your profile from Find a Matchup.
• Access, correct, download or delete your information by emailing us. We'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, such as California, you may have additional privacy rights. We honor those rights for everyone, wherever you live.

Adults only

Ball Boi is for people 18 and older. If we learn someone under 18 has an account, we delete it. If you think that's happened, let us know.

Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and trusted providers to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a sign-in method you keep safe.

Changes

If we make material changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
